Thanks for your interest in becoming a club referee.
Things you’ll need to do to begin:
- Register
for beginning referee course. Go to
www.fsr-inc.com and click on
courses, then beginning (grade 8) courses.
These are usually held in advance of or at the beginning of each of
the spring and fall seasons. Locate
the nearest one and fill in the appropriate information.
- Complete
the 19 hour course, which consists of class material and some field
training.
- Pass
the 100 question test.
- Purchase
the equipment needed, ie jersey, shorts, sox,
flags, whistle, watch, red/yellow cards, etc. During the course, you’ll receive
information as to where to buy starter kits, but you’re free to purchase
from your local retailer or on line.
- Contact
the assignor for the club you wish to work for and work with him/her on
your availability and your comfort level for games. As you gain experience, you will be
assigned higher level games.
- Recertify
every year.
- Spend
time researching info to help make you a better referee.
- Spend
time out of the classroom learning all you can about managing the game on
the field.
